Food Entrepreneur — Young and Extraordinary: DeAnna Mayo

October 16, 2010

Ekos-Squared highlights small, local business enterprises, that are not only profitable, but that provide jobs and needed goods and services for the community.

Here is a great example:  DeAnna Mayo runs a business that provides healthy gourmet cookies. I ran into DeAnna Mayo’s mother in the Cheltenham, Post Office. I wasn’t able to get a sample cookie, but I did get a great story right here in Prince George’s County, Maryland

DeAnna Mayo’s company is My Sweet Tooth LLC., of Cheltenham, DeAnna says that she founded the business ” to meet the desires of children who not only have restrictive dietary needs, but those who are facing diabetes, obesity, or simply want a healthier option when choosing desserts at school or in the local area.”

How did DeAnna Mayo get started? You can read about it on her scrumptious website: My Sweet Tooth, LLC. You can order stuff on line.

Here are the ingredients of one of her the most popular cookies:

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Made with Unbleached Flour, Whole Oats, Raisins, , Non-Hydrogenated Margarine, Agave, Potato Starch, Tapioca Flour, Cane Juice, Vanilla Bean, Sea-Salt, Baking Soda, Rice Milk.
Notice that there are no milk products which means that those who are lactose intolerant and vegans can enjoy the cookies. Also no hydrogenated oils, no additives, and no high fructose corn syrup. There is also an alternative choice for diabetics that replaces the sugar.

We would like to invite DeAnna to sell her cookies at next summer’s farm and food market Our Local Bounty located in nearby Croom, Maryland. With stuff like this she’s likely to do quite well and so are we Local Bounty regulars.

WOW!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I feel really blessed to have this post. I am sorry that you did not have an opportunity to taste the cookies. They were pre ordered and I did not have any extras.

I will be in contact for the next food and farm market and any selection that you would like. Please contact me if I don’t contact you first. Again thanks a lot for your support. Talk to you soon.
