The ” PayrollTax Holiday” is a Trojan Horse: Video Interview with Sue Ward, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare

December 14, 2010

The so-called “Payroll Tax Holiday” is a Trojan Horse. Our exclusive video interview with Sue Ward, Organizing Director of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security.

As we reported in Sunday’s post: This provision would reduce for one year the payroll taxes that workers pay toward social security.  While the “holiday” sounds great it was originated by conservatives and is likely a Trojan Horse. The catch is that the $120 billion will be subtracted from the funds that go to Social Security — thereby weakening a program that has remained solvent has never failed to payout to retirees for its 75 year history. For this reason, Democrats have never before allowed Congress to lower the revenue source for Social Security.  See article in Huffington Post.

Sue Ward, Grassroots Director, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare

Video Interview with Sue Ward: On Saturday we interviewed on the nation’s leading advocates for seniors, Sue Ward. Sue has spent much of her professional career working for the interests of the aging. She was the first Secretary for the Department of Aging in Maryland and is currently organizing director of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare. A must see.

This is not just an issue for today’s seniors — but for the future economic security of all Americans.
